Interim Transport Manager

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an Interim Transport Manager on the Isle of Wight.

Role Purpose

Responsible for the legal, safety, and environmental compliance of clients HGV fleet. Ensures waste collection/transfer operations are supported by a safe, efficient, fully O-Licence compliant transport function. No direct line management of drivers, but close daily liaison with operational teams and drivers is essential.Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Fleet Management

• Ensure full compliance with O Licence and DVSA requirements (PMIs, MOTs, inspections, defect reporting/rectification).
• Maintain accurate records for maintenance, inspections, tachographs, and driver hours.
• Act as nominated CPC Transport Manager on the O Licence if required.
• Manage relationships with workshops, hire providers, and contractors to maintain compliant vehicle availability.

Operational Coordination

• Work with Operations Managers to align fleet activity with service schedules.
• Ensure vehicles are available, roadworthy, and service-ready daily.
• Support route/transport planning to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
• Monitor utilisation and vehicle condition, escalating risks early.

Safety, Environment & Reporting

• Promote safety-first transport practices and support risk assessments/toolbox talks.
• Ensure environmental standards on emissions, fluids, and load containment are met.
• Keep documentation inspection-ready and produce compliance/KPI reports.
• Assist investigations into vehicle incidents or infringements.

Qualifications

Essential

• Transport Manager CPC (National/International)
• Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

• HGV Cat C or C+E
• IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
